Trophy Wife Diet Tips

Dearest Trophy:  Here are some great tips to help you on your Journey to looking Fabulous!!

!. Automate your eating by planning your meals ahead of time. That way you're less likely to make an unhealthy last-minute food choice.
!. Skipping meals can cause your body to go into a fat-storing starvation mode, making it harder to burn calories.
!. Don't confuse thirst with hunger. Drink a glass of water when you feel hungry to see if that's what you're really craving.
!. Create emergency packs filled with healthy foods such as nuts, fruits or sliced vegetables to help you avoid unhealthy temptations.
!. Never eat any snack food out of the box, carton or bag it came in. You're less likely to overeat if you separate snacks into appropriate fist-sized servings.
!. Take every opportunity to move around, even in small ways. Studies show fidgety people tend to be skinnier.
!. If you're having trouble getting started, make a small move such as starting an eating log or buying walking shoes. You're three times more likely to follow through if you start with small gestures such as these.

Let's Move: How much Exercise is needed?

Let's Move
The Department of Health and Human Services recommends that healthy adults include aerobic exercise and strength training in their fitness plans.
  • About 20 minutes of moderate aerobic activity daily or 25 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity 3x a week
  • Strength training exercises at least twice a week
Regular exercise can help you control your weight, reduce your risk of heart disease, and strengthen your bones and muscles. But if you haven't exercised for some time and you have health concerns, as always recommended talk to your doctor before starting a new fitness routine.

Of course you know that Exercise is just the Trophy Wife at Work.  We work out to keep it right!  But there is fun to be had along with the repetitive pace of the treadmill. Pilates, Zumba, Aerobic Dance, Bollywood..have fun while creating the Ultimate Domestic Goddess - The Trophy Wife

Along with the fun: A look at Obesity

Along with the fun....
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the CDC, released its annual obesity rate report, which revealed that 35.7 percent of all American adults are obese.
While it's all of America, the South has the highest rate of obesity – with several states among the top 12 that have obesity rates that exceed 30 percent of the population. The 12 are: Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and West Virginia.
Your Trophy Wife Diva knows that while the majority of this is attributed to diet and lack of movement, part of the numbers are because of genetics.  Obesity leads to a greater risk of diabetes, heart disease, arthritis flare, high blood pressure, it's even harder to find cancerous tumors early when you carry to much extra weight. Whatever you attribute obesity too, along with the health risk, obesity is uncomfortable.
Muffin top to bootydo (your stomach looks bigger than your booty do) -it's harder to find fashionable clothes and wipe your poo. On a recent documentary where a woman lost over 300 pounds through surgery she admitted that one of her largest embarrassments was that her husband had to "help her" in the bathroom.

So while we have fun losing the Trophy Wife Diet way...we must remember there are a whole host of reasons beyond aesthetics for whipping our bods into Trophy shape!

Strength Training: Getting started

When I taught boot camp classes my goal was to help others stay fit and get a great challenging workout. Now I’m working hard with the help of the trophy wife diet to get back into shape after an illness that left me needing to lose 30 pounds to get back into that boot camp shape.  But I have also added another goal.
A Strength Goal is a Sculpting Goal
A lot of us focus on losing weight…this potential trophy wife wants that too, but I also want to feel strong. So I also have added a strength goal to my fitness and weight loss goals.  I want to be able to do a pull-up by my birthday this June.  It’s a realistic goal as long as I continue to put in the work.  So along with plenty of fat burning cardio, I’m also making sure to work my muscles with strength training – Picking up the weights for many women can be scary.  They worry about getting bulky.  Most of us (big most) don’t have the body composition to get manly bulk. Muscle training (weight lifting) can actually help us sculpt our shape. Think of your waistline whittling down.  It will be great to lose the fat but even greater to see a little 6 pack underneath. The definition we call a 6 pack is actually those strengthened muscles peaking out at you.
Not sure how to get started  - you can hire a trainer for one or two private classes to give you a few lessons, grab a book or two from your local library or my favorite way to get started – go to a fitness class where strength training is part of the class.  You learn while getting a full workout and you’ll be more likely to get a full workout in a class rather than working out on your own.  Don’t worry they will start out with 3-5lb weights and you can move up from there. Track your progress as you workout. As I'm working on that pull-up goal I have to slowly learn to lift my body weight. So using a machine like the lat pull-down (get a worker at your gym to point it out) machine. Each week I want to add a little more weight eventually moving up as close to my body weight as I can handle. But that's my goal. your goal may be to handle lifting a few grocery bags without getting winded. That's a great goal to start with.

Finding your target HEART RATE part 1

When you exercise, aim for a goal heart rate of 70 to 85 percent of your maximum heart rate (MHR). Your MHR when roughly,  (as in estimated), calculated as 220 minus your age) is the upper limit of what your cardiovascular system (your heart), can handle during most physical activity.

These numbers are estimates that provide an average value. Many people have a higher or lower MHR, sometimes by as much as 15 to 20 beats per minute. Disagreement exists on how to most accurately estimate your MHR and what percentage range to target.

If you're looking for more than an estimate, consider discussing your target range with an exercise physiologist or personal trainer. ---Mayo Clinic

Alcohol on the TWD

Everyone ask, Can I drink alcohol while dieting?  Yes, …and NO.  Yes you can – but alcohol is a processed food – so remember those fat cells are going to suck it up.  Try and go for the most unprocessed stuff – wine = grapes crushed and put in a barrel, bottled and given to you.  Stay away from lots of mixed drinks that have juice and syrups added.
TWD TIP- I trade off, 2 glasses of wine equals 30 minutes on the treadmill.  Here is the skinny on the calorie content:

Spirits: 65 cals

6 oz glass of wine: 80-120 cals

Measure of Bailey's: 140 cals

Coolers: 200-250 (Bacardi Breezer Lite: 100cals)

Beer: 100-250

Dinner Ideas Trophy Wife Style

Dinner Time:
For Dinner you get to enjoy a protein, plenty of veggies, and I am giving you back your carbohydrates.  Carbs are the potatoes to your meat – But I want you to remember (yes I'm explaining again) the more processed a carbohydrate the easier it is for your body to absorb it.  The easier it is to absorb the more chance of those nasty fat cells growing too big for your britches.  The answer to this is to try and get the least processed carb available: Ex. 1 baked potato –take potato out of ground and wash it then bake it –not much processing, go ahead and enjoy it.  Ex. 2 white bread – take brown grain, thrash it, remove all the good grain from it you can, bleach it, crush it, turn it in to a fine powder, mix it with a bunch of stuff to make it last on the shelf, knead it, let it sit to rise, bake it, package it for the world to enjoy – lot’s of processing, gonna make those fat cells nice and plump.  Look for whole grain rolls, pita breads, & brown rice.

You can repeat some choices from lunch to really kick the diet up a notch.  Stay away from fried foods – Trophy Wives can Grill, Bake, Roast, Poach, Steam, Smoke, & Stir.
Freebie with every dinner.  Small side salad with low cal or vinegar dressing.

Mediterranean Diet Choices.
Chicken Kabobs
Slice 4 ounces raw chicken breast into small chunks to skewer on a kabob stick. Marinate at least 30 minutes to overnight in 1/4 cup fat-free Italian dressing. Slice  white onion and green pepper into chunks; set out 10 grape tomatoes. Alternate pieces of marinated chicken, onion, pepper, and cherry tomatoes on skewers and grill. Serve with one 6-inch whole-wheat pita pocket, toasted over the grill. You can spread pita with 2 tablespoons hummus.  Too cold for outside –pop open the George Forman.
Tomato and Mozzarella Sandwich
Slice a 6-inch French baguette roll (3-inch diameter) in half lengthwise. Add 2 deli slices of chicken or turkey. Sprinkle the halves with 1/3 cup 33% reduced-fat shredded mozzarella cheese and bake in toaster oven at 250 degrees for 4 to 6 minutes, until cheese is just beginning to melt. Meanwhile, slice 2 large red tomatoes in 1/2-inch slices. Remove baguette from toaster oven, sprinkle with a little dried basil and dried oregano if desired. Top with tomato slices.
Grilled Chicken with Greek Salad
Marinate a 3-ounce chicken breast in 3 tablespoons fat-free Italian dressing at least 30 minutes (can also marinate the chicken overnight). Spray 4 small new potatoes with olive oil or butter-flavored cooking spray and sprinkle with a dash of ground black pepper. Grill the chicken and potatoes. Serve with 1 1/2 cups romaine lettuce topped with 1 tablespoon sliced black olives, 1/2 ounce crumbled reduced-fat feta cheese, and dressing: Whisk together 2 teaspoons olive oil, 1/2 teaspoon dried basil, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 minced garlic clove, and a few shakes of ground black pepper.
Tomato Couscous with Asparagus and Crumbled Ground Beef
Cook 2 ounces dry couscous according to package directions. (Try Near East Mediterranean curry couscous.) Grill 4 ounces 90%-92% lean ground beef and 10 spears asparagus sprayed with olive oil nonstick cooking spray. Crumble hamburger into cooked couscous, chop asparagus and add to mixture, and top with 3/4 cup spaghetti sauce from jar.
Halibut or Snapper
Slice 1/2 onion into circular slices and grill. Fold over aluminum foil several times and fashion into a sturdy 10-inch-diameter bowl with the edges folded up a little to hold the fish and tomatoes. Empty an 8-ounce can diced tomatoes (no salt added) onto the foil bowl. Top the tomatoes with 6 ounces halibut or red snapper. Grill or Bake until fish flakes easily with a fork. Serve over 1/2 cup cooked brown rice and top with grilled onion.

Lunch Ideas Trophy Wife Style

Lunch – You have a little room with lunch.  Here are some ideas to choose from.
Top Tips:
-Keep it under 400 calories.
-Picture your stomach as a little bowl that can hold about ½ - 1 cup of food and liquid at a time.  Do not   over stuff it.
-Eating on the run – cut your portions in half and have the waiter box it up

Citrus Salad
Bowl of fresh leafy greens, topped with orange slices, chopped nuts, red onion, and 1 tbsp of vinaigrette dressing or make your own dressing with Dijon mustard and balsamic vinegar blended with a  tbsp of orange juice.
Adding a little protein from the breakfast list makes this a great Dinner choice
Tuna Salad
Bowl of fresh leafy greens topped with a tin of water packed tuna mixed with 1tbsp of low fat mayo or light ranch salad dressing & 1 tbsp of plain yogurt and 1 cup of chopped tomatoes.
Shrimp Cocktail
You know
Chicken Wrap
Shredded chicken, lettuce, tomato, and roasted peppers inside a tortilla wrap.  The calories are in the dressing so use mustard instead of ranch or salsa to moisten the wrap and add flavor.
Baked Pockets
Add a cup of green peppers, onions, squash and 4oz of chicken  or fish into a piece of heavy duty foil.  Add a tsp of olive oil and a tsp of mrs. Dash.  Bake 30 minutes or until meat is done.  Serve alone or with a small lettuce salad.
Lobster/Shrimp Stir
Stir 1 sliced onion, 3oz shrimp, 2 oz lobster pieces, 1 tsp of soy sauce, 2 shakes or ¼ tsp (to taste) of red pepper in 1 tbsp of olive oil.  Stir fry until shrimp is done. Turn off heat and stir in slices of mandarin orange (fresh or canned).
NOTICE:
Everything is a protein for filling the tummy and energy.  And then Green leafy’s for bulk, veggies and fruit always good for you.  Staying away from the white flour and sugars.

Breakfast Ideas Trophy Wife Style

Breakfast -  This meal needs to include a whole grain carbohydrate (or slow burning carb), a protein, and vitamins and antioxidants.  Breakfast is just that – Breaking the fast from the night before.  Healthy Hotties need a well rounded start to the day.  Choose 1 from each group.
Protein
Carbohydrate
Vitamin/Antioxidant
Eggs 1-2
Whole or Multi grain toast 1 slice
Fruit 1 piece or 1 cup
Canadian bacon 2 slices
Reg. bacon 1
Oatmeal ¾ cup
Juice –natural/pure ½ cup
Steak slices 3oz
Whole Grain Cereal
Veggie -spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, onions, cauliflower
Almonds, walnuts 2 oz
Muffin 1/2

Lobster pieces 4oz
Pancake/Waffle 1

Salmon 4oz
Tortilla 1 piece

Chicken shredded 3oz
Rice ¼ cup

Protein Shake w/ Peanut Butter
 Protein shake with banana
 Protein shake with berries

Dairy additions: 2oz cheese – feta, skim milk cheddar, goat or any white.  Yogurt ½ cup. Skim or 1% milk ½ cup.

I hear people say all the time - whats a protein, I'm not sure what's a good carb vs. a bad carb?  I make it simple.
Protein is meat.  You can find Protein in other foods - but don't try to memorize them all grab a handy food guide or google protein list and you'll know!
Carbohydrates can turn into sugar and then fat. why we diet people always say stay away from them or eat slow carbs - slow carbs & whole grains are potatos and flour based foods usually.  But the best way to eat your carb is look for the food that has the least amount of processing. Think of cake vs granola.  A lot happens to make that cake-cake, while granola looks like it just popped out of the ground. Make sense. Of course you can send me a message to ask questions?

Trophy Wife Diva: Detox Diva

I'm doing the Hollywood Diet Diva Detox

This detox is not for everybody.  More Likely to be done by the Potential Trophy Wife Dieter or the 2nd Wife Trophy Wife Dieter. It's a great kick start for your diet or to knock you off a plateau.  I know people that have lost up to 10 pounds doing it and others 2-3.  I usually lose about 6-7 when I try it along with losing a little pooch off my tummy.

The 1-2 Detox

to cleanse the colon, remove nasty toxins & lose up to 4% of your body weight.

This 1-2 Detox is not for everybody.  It takes discipline, a healthy body and dedication. And Diva's are spoiled so sacrifice is not easy.  But if you are ready to get healthy and willing to get ready for the starring role called your life - then this will be no problem for you.

The 1.  Because it is how we start out.  We are going to cleanse the colon & toxins in the body and get some "gunk" out.
The 2. Because it last two days. And once you start you have to stick to it to get the results.

How to:  Drink 8oz of the 1-2 Detox Diet mixture 4 times a day.  Spacing them out as you would your meals and a “snack” before bedtime.  In between these meals you must drink plenty of water 6-8 glasses each day.  You can put real lemon juice in your water.
You may also eat raw green leafy veggies with this.  That’s lettuce, greens, or spinach.  Up to 2 heads or 32oz. RAW only.  You can drizzle a couple of tablespoons of your 1-2 Detox over the leafy greens to act as a dressing.

1-2 Detox Diet Recipe: (there is reason behind this blend so try not to deter)

6 oz of each Cranberry, Pineapple, & Apple JUICE – Real fruit juice
8 oz of Orange Juice – Pure with or without pulp
4 oz of each Apricot, Peach, & Banana Puree – you can make it yourself if you have a food processor or you can just use baby food.  Apricot sometimes is hard to find unblended so a mix is ok. ex Apricot/berry blend.

Mix everything together and add an equal amount of water.  You can do this all at once (the 38 oz. of juices with 38oz. of water) or mix together the 1-2 Detox Diet juices with the water as you drink it (4-6oz of juice blend with 4-6 oz of water).

*Dont want to blend yourself, check out the Detox mixes at the drugstore.  I like mixing myself- I know its fresh and exactly what's in it.

Diet your Personality: Rule 6

Diet your Personality
There are different types of trophy wives.  Here are a few stereotypes to choose from, decide which one reflects your diet personality and I'll share more tips for each style in later blogs as we go:

Soccer Mom - This Trophy Wife Diet Diva is happy with her life. The last time you saw her she had a handful of hotdogs for herself and the kids at the park. She is not looking to be a star, she is happy being the star of her own life.  Soccer Mom just wants to lose a few pounds so her pants are not so tight.

2nd Wife - This Trophy Wife Diet Diva's star shines bright. Her favorite pastimes include yoga and pilates, sunsets and saving the world. She is greener than Al Gore and drinks wheat grass because it's good for you.

Miss Independent - This Trophy Wife Diet Diva is strong and confident.  She works hard to maintain her fitness routine so she can run the occasional 10K in honor of her company's (as in she owns it) team.  Her busy schedule has kept her out of the gym and now she is jumping back to her regular routine.

Potential Trophy Wife - This Trophy Wife Diet Diva is not just happy to be here.  She plans to stay - make that STAY.  She either just got or is waiting on her ring (boyfriend or not).  Her looks make a difference and she knows it. She wants to look hot from every angle. She wakes up at 5am to workout and will drink protein shakes or cabbage soup if it promises to give her thinner thighs.

Turn Calorie Loss into Weightloss: Rule 5

Trophy Diet Rule
explained how to calculate calories now lets find the how on using it.  Lets go back to Ms. 150 pounds.  Say she wants to lose 10 pounds.
Big Secret: 1 pound weighs 3500 calories (easy way to say it)

So losing 3500 calories per pound wanted to drop or in our scenario 35,000. calories.  All at once would be very uncomfortable so we should set a goal for losing that ten pounds.

Realistic goals apply here: Say Ms. 150 wants to lose it smoothly the trophy wife way - for an event six weeks from now.
She divides 35000 calories by 6 weeks would mean losing about 5833 calories per week or 833 calories per day.
SIMPLE when you break it down right-

Remember from Rule 4 Ms. 150 is eating an estimate of 2100 calories now so she has those choices - either
1. eat less 2. eat less move more 3. move more any of these enough to lose 833 calories each day.

Trophywife Diet recommendation is: drumroll
#2. Eating a 1500 calorie per day diet and a 30 minute workout each day would get her to her goal easily.
Again Simple when you break it down...

And she can spend that exercise time on fun, Dancing, Pilates, +Zumba, or even walking. I would encourage her to have fun with the meals too. Eat Pretty and Go Gourmet with the recipes.

Cutting the Calories Down: Rule 4

Every diet out

there tells you to cut the calories or rearrange the calories using their special food formula.  Honey its calories in vs. calories out.
1.You need to eat less or
2. Eat less and move more or
3. Move more.

In whatever combination you do it the goal is less calories sticking to the body than you put in your body.
The How:  You can keep a food journal and count the calories you eat eat eat each day then average out what you take in by dividing the weeks calories and come up with a number. Or you can estimate and get a good average right now.
Most of us modestly active people need about 14 calories per pound to maintain our current wait. (less for older people or couch potatoes, more for high metabolism and younger people) But 14 is a good avg. calculate 14 by the amount of pounds you weigh. ex. 150 lb. person x 14 = 2100 calories per day.

More on How is this useful - If you eat 2100 calories per day and want to weigh less than our fictional 150 pounds you have to cut some calories. either by eating less calories or moving enough to burn more calories. It's actually pretty simple when you think about it.  I have to eat less calories than my body is used to getting each day so it can burn of some of the extra calories I'm packing on my thighs.

Eating Trophy

Translation: Eating Pretty

Barley and Peanut-butter dipped celery eating is not for you Trophywife. We eat delicious foods prepared beautifully on pretty little plates.  Gourmet is ...did I say delicious.  In the beginning if you cant hire a personal chef you have a few ways to go. This TWDieter loves

Epicurious.com: Recipes, Menus, Cooking Articles & Food Guides

www.epicurious.com/
and of course they have an app for that, search #Epicurious for Epi and you'll have wonderful recipes at your fingertips at all times. Featuring recipes from the Now Eat This Menu

Another way to go is with frozen gourmet meals. One of my favorites is:

Be Culinary Chic: Creative Collections | Lean Cuisine

www.leancuisine.com/
or

Healthy Choice

www.healthychoice.com/
Between the Culinary Collection & the Spa Collection there are 78 choices. Think chicken Carbonara,Mushroom Mezzaluna Ravioli, Butternut Squash Ravioli

What the Trophy Wife has to pay attention to is serving size.  Most Recipe's have the number of portions listed along with the ingredients. Big TWD trick - just have one serving or a little less.

When I cook a box of frozen lobster ravioli - I don't eat it in the box. I put it on a pretty plate perhaps adding a side salad and if needed a pinch of Mrs. Dash to brighten the flavor.
